1. Professional quality photos are essential for contributions to The Canadian Fly Fisher Magazine. Forms of photographs and images accepted include:
4+ mega pixel digital photos, must be clear and crisp. Minimum DPI (dots per inch) must be set at 300 dpi. A digital SLR camera is the most common method of taking such high quality images. Higher resolution images are preferred (6 mega pixel and up).
35mm slides - must be clear and crisp. SLR camera quality is necessary. We prefer digital photos to slides as we can't be responsible for slides lost or damaged in the post.
Prints have only limited use as they do not have the definition for enlargement. Please do not submit prints.
A good selection of photos should be provided with captions for each written submission. Be sure to provide both horizontal and vertical shots as well as a mix of fish, scenery, flora, fauna, etc.
2. Slides should be numbered, with your name printed on each. We must have originals, not duplicates, to work from. CDs should have a list of contents. For your own protection, it's best to send slides and CDs by courier or some form of Canada post special delivery. Please make duplicates for your own files.
3. If sending in photos (digital or 35mm slides) of tying sequences, only images with even composition and lighting will be accepted. The background should maintain the same shading and colour throughout the entire sequence. The flies should appear clear and crisp. These images are best taken with a professional macro setup.
We have facilities for photographing flies and fly tying sequences if samples are provided. In fact, unless you have the facilities and macro equipment for taking top quality close-ups, we prefer this arrangement. In fly tying features, the number of photos will vary according to the complexity of the pattern. The exact number will be determined once we've accepted the proposed article.
4. Please explain clearly the location of each shot, fish species, names of persons featured, etc...
