2009 Issue of Canadian Fly Fisher - By: CFF Staff

In 2009, Fly Fishing Canada and The Canadian Fly Fisher are offering
a free fly fishing school for kids on the weekend of September 26,
27 during the Fly Fishing Canada National Fly Fishing Championships
in Fernie, BC. The focus will be twofold: getting kids started in
fly fishing with a dynamic experience on the Elk River, one of
Canada’s blue ribbon fly fishing streams, and providing expert
instruction to help kids who already fly fish improve their skills.
Instruction will be provided by the coaches of the Canadian Youth
Fly Fishing Team and other expert Canadian fly fishers, including
The Canadian Fly Fisher staff.
While kids within comfortable driving distance of Fernie, will find
it easy to attend, those in other parts of the country will be faced
with the cost of airfare. Therefore, The Canadian Fly Fisher and Fly
Fishing Canada have set up a special fund through which Canadian fly
fishers can contribute to sponsor getting kids out to Fernie for the
event, by paying for their travel costs.
How to Donate
Cheques, money orders, and credit card particulars (made payable to
Fly Fishing Canada) should be mailed to The Canadian Fly Fisher
office at 256 ½ Front St., Belleville, ON K8N 2Z2
Individuals wishing to sponsor a youngster of their choice should
send us the name of the recipient, along with all the information
requested in the registration directions for kids.
How kids can register
Send us the following information by snail mail or e-mail to
info@canflyfish.com
• Your name and address:
• Your Age (to be eligible, kids must be under 17 as of Sept. 30,
2009).
• In no more than 250 words tell us about yourself—whether or not
you’ve fly fished before and, if you have, where and to what extent.
Also, tell us why you’d like to attend the workshop and why fly
fishing is important to you.
We’ll publish a list of donors in the November/January issue of The
Canadian Fly Fisher.
Note: As we go to press, the fund is already over $1,000 from
donations by staff and writers at The Canadian Fly Fisher. Should be
good for a couple of plane tickets. Any more is up to you.
